Copyright Laws in India

Copyright in India is governed by the Copyright Act first legislated in 1957 and amended from time to time (hereinafter called, "the Act''). The last substantial revision of the Act was carried out in 1992 effective June 9, 1994. A further revision of minor significance was carried out in 1999 to comply with India's obligations under TRIPS relating to broadcasting and performer's rights. Read more.

Patent Laws in India

The current law for patents in India is the Patents Act, 1970 and Patents Rules, 1972, which came into force on April 20, 1972. The Act was amended thereafter in 1999 and 2002. Read more.

Trademark Laws in India

The Effective September 15, 2003, the Trade Marks Act, 1999 (hereinafter the new Act) was notified into force to replace the earlier Trade and Merchandise Marks Act, 1958 (hereinafter the old Act). Among the various changes introduced by the new Act, the provisions for registrability of shape and service marks, recognition of well-known marks etc. are noteworthy.Read more.
